Satyr is currently a lvl 42 Demonology Warlock and is my Hardcore character. Hardcore means that if they die before they reach lvl 60, they get deleted. This started as a Classic WoW challenge, and Turtle WoW later incorporated it into their servers. HC characters also cannot use the auction house, trade with anyone other than other HC chars within 5 levels up or down of them, or party up with non-HC +-5 lvls chars as well. This means that along with never dying, she has to be self-suffcient in finding ways to upgrade her gear, as well as finding opportune trades with the few people able to trade with at any given time. This whole challenge brings a new layer of suspense and immersion to the game, and I couldn't be happier than when I'm playing this character. I am proud to say she is only my 2nd ever HC attempt, my first died as a lvl 2 Orc warlock outside those imp caves, but that simply made me realize that was not meant to be, as I have always been Undead by heart.
In life, I was but a mere student. I was sent to a school to study all manner of magics, but I always was drawn to the mysteries of the Twisting Nether and the Demons that resided within. Unfortunately, I found that seeking a deeper manner of understanding Demons was frowned upon -- whether by the so-called "scholars" of the Arcane who shun the study as simply a path to corruption -- or the Warlocks themselves that I saw, who were so set in their ways that they did not know nor want to know where their power or their Demon's power came from, only short-sightedly caring to increase it. I, however, yearned to go deeper, to understand not just the Fel, but the Demons themselves.
Why do these creatures, whose existance is born of the Chaos that naturally churns between Light and Void, seem to have desires all their own, when paradoxically they are pure Chaos taken form?
Through my studies I kept in secret from my peers, I had come up with a theory. The demons are wild and yet, innately subservient. The ones who influence our world, manipulate us to cause pain and suffering, the most powerful among them... there is evidence that even these Demons, if shown a greater power, will be just the same as the companionable Imp.
Being creatures of Chaos they can have no true innate desires. In my theory, the Demons are similar to the Spirits or Elements. Unlike them, however, Demons have no natural role as Chaos cannot be any one thing. I believe this is why when they are given a Master, someone whose Will to follow, they can be controlled. They only need to be convinced with your own strength of Magic and Will first. In this theory, even the most powerful, destructive, seemingly Evil of the Demons such as the Dreadlords can be Dominated and fully controlled.
After I faced Undeath, the time had come to turn my knowledge into action. I re-named myself Satyr, after the incredible demonic form the Night Elf Xavius was twisted into, as I too had my body and spirit broken and formed again. I can tell that my Forsaken body is frail, however, my new perspective has given me a new clarity of purpose; that of the Demonologist. No longer can I be content to study and watch, I want -- no, need -- to know of the true nature of Demons for myself. Not just for my own curiosity, but to bolster myself with this Other-Worldly strength in order to survive. I must see my studies through: to find the ways to tame and control not just the "safe" Demons, but ALL kinds of Demons... whatever it takes.
